Alright, you guys want me to give this a spin? I'll give this a spin. First, I'll have to set a few boundaries, though:
1. This will be done in the traditional paragraph format (Meaning all words, none of that picture stuff). Therefore, I will be expecting a certain level of detail in your responses. Since I think I'm the only veteran here, I'll be setting the bar fairly low, but I want to see effort.
2. YOU MUST CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTER. Canon Mega Man characters will be rejected on sight, and characters named after yourself, almost certainly so, on the grounds that self-insert characters are boring. Before you join, you will submit a Bio for your character, providing basic information such as name and creator (If relevant), as well as a brief summary of the character's appearance, a rough take on their personality, and, perhaps most importantly of all, some form of backstory. I reserve the right to reject any character Bio from joining, provided that I give sufficient reasoning and advice on improving the character.
3. Although this RP is primarily to test your ability to write in detail and play fairly in a conventional (If structureless) role-playing environment, I will be expecting consistent characterization from all players. In a way, I'll be making this easier for you, since you'll be working with a personality that you established yourself.
4. Have fun...or else! No, seriously, I didn't come here to be the Murderer of Fun; I'll be trying to have fun with it too! So have fun with it.
What's that? "Enough with the rules, Chaos, what's this RP actually about?"
I'm glad you asked. I was just getting to that.
---
The year 20XX. The city of Monstropolis was enjoying a sigh of relief. Dr. Wily was safely behind bars once again, thanks to the heroic actions of none other than Mega Man. This particular day was not a day of celebration, but of peace—all quiet, save for the dullish hum of life going on in the city. Or, at least, it was quiet, until a sounding trumpet in the distance played a king's herald.

Or, rather, the King's herald. Sure enough, every television in Monstropolis displayed King's face—headdress, war paint, and benevolent smile. "Good morning, Monstropolis," the once-deposed monarch beamed through the camera signal.

Initially, the citizens looked up at the monitor in fear. King had not been seen since his exodus a few years back; all had thought him dead until now. He took note of this immediately, and tried to relax, slipping off his helm to reveal tufts of radiant blue hair. "Peace be upon you, citizens! I know this is a time of peace for Monstropolis; I do not approach in order to wage war once again. Oh, rest assured, there will be conflict, but for the sake of those who would partake in it!" Clearing his throat, King began a somewhat lengthy explanation.

"I still believe in a world where man and metal man can live in peace, if not in unity. But as long as Robots will fight other Robots to preserve that peace, I think it only fair that there should be an entire league of heroes, not just those who made me see when I had been made blind by the hands of the madman! If we all prepare ourselves, we can uphold this peace, and make the world a better place to live in! Am I not correct?" A few citizens nodded quietly; others clapped.

"Indeed I am! And in my journeys across this world, I have found other Robots who also thought I was correct. We have formed an alliance and sharpened our bodies and minds, and today, we stand before you to offer you a chance to do the same—in a game we call the King's Gambit Challenge!"

"The rules are simple: four chosen Robots will arrive on the scene and battle through a gauntlet of my companions. The battles are for training purposes, so any Robot who is incapacitated will be repaired and sent home. Those who claim victory against the entire gauntlet will leave not only with honor, title, and the ability to protect themselves and theirs, but they will also earn access to our humble armory."

"So! To all Robots out there who hear my call, to all that wish to uphold peace, to all who wish to take this King's Gambit Challenge...decide amongst yourselves who will go first, and of the four chosen, gird yourselves for combat! And, creators...please try to make arrangements for the Robot to take part in this; if they are successful, they will return to you more useful than they were before."

"Meet us at my old Tower on the outskirts of town. You'll find it refurbished, with us waiting there for you." And, as suddenly as King's transmission had appeared, it vanished, and the screens returned to their typical displays.

The challenge was set. The question was...who would rise to the challenge?

(You cannot submit any more bios. MegaBossMan, Spinstrike, Btman, Tobyjoey, and I are the only people allowed to contribute to the story.)

Mage Man kept wondering who might show up... or what. As all people walk in, he follows behind.

"T-that wasn't what I meant by a plan!" exclaimed Print Man as he and the rest of the party chased after Insanity Man. The massive doors slammed shut behind them, knocking Print Man on his face.

True to the gatekeeper's words, as soon as Insanity-Man stepped into the courtyard, he noticed a figure, meandering about and tending to the plants. He was nearly identical to the gatekeeper, but he was a bit taller, and clad in white; unlike the gatekeeper, who seemed a bit sickly, this one seemed far more ready for action.

He meandered about with his watering can, initially not even noticing that his foes had arrived, but when more of them walked in and they continued their not-unheated discussion, he dropped it and turned to face them. "Hello," he said, rather flatly. "Here for the fighting, I presume?" He seemed rather nonchalant about the whole thing. "Well, I didn't want to be in this gauntlet, I'm not much of a fighter, but what King says is best must be, so..." he got into a fighting stance, but only with balled fists—he did not seem to have any weapons to speak of. "I am the first of the King's Men. I am known as Pawn. I assure you, this will be easy for you. Let the battle begin."

Stepping forward, Pawn rushed Insanity-Man, fist aimed to punch him squarely...but that was not his intention. Instead, as he neared, he leaped into the air, sailing through it with deft speed, and aimed to plant his feet firmly on the head of Print-Man.

As soon as Pawn leaped through the air, Insanity Man took notice of his being ignored....Something he did not take lightly.

"Aw yeah! Now this is what I'm talking about, the whole reason I joined! Now, I'll prep my good old shell to block his little hop, then we party!"

However, Pawn continues to fly over his head and seems to be aiming for one of the members of the group....

"What?! You were supposed to aim for my face, not the other guys! Great, I'll be ignored....again, like always. Then again, Pawnster can take out the squeaks, then we'll light up the whole night! Hahahaha! Hehehe! I'm so happy, why else live then for battle?!"

Pawn closes in on the group, and seems to be aiming for Print Man....

"Oh, aim for Mr. Comic Relief, eh? Hey, at least we'll get some laughs out of em! Wait, I bet he laughs when he screams!"

As Pawn seems to close in for the kill, Insanity Man has a change of look....One of sudden concern.

"(Maybe I should roll in and help him, right? No! Stupid! Stupid! I don't want to do it!)"

Insanity Man bangs his head with a heated anger, and then calms down.

"(Whatever....I can tell Mage Man has got him protected anyway...I think. Really, who can trust anyone around here? We're all competing for a goal, and this alliance is only temporary, then it turns into who wants it most. The question is though, can I trust them? In the past, trust has given me pain. Can they trust me? And can I trust myself?)"

"(What am I thinking? This is so out of character for me....Well, I'll just wait to see what happens. Wait, how is all my thinking the same speed as all this?)"

And Insanity Man continues to watch, to see how it ends for his teammate.....Unless somehow he survives.....
Unless you can't tell, Insanity Man also has the weapon of fourth-wall breaking.

Mage Man seems annoyed by the tactics of Pawn. Gah! If he doesn't stop jumping on Print Man, then I'd end up burning him! I gotta keep him away from Print Man... He waits. Pawn jumps off of Print Man, but before jumping again, Mage Man uses Mage Reverse on him, making him go the other way, practically towards Insanity Man.

As the Pawm is reversed and dashes towards Insanity Man, Gamble Man summons countdown bombs on the Pawn, trapping him as the timers countdown. 3. 2. 1. At the last second the Pawn managed to shove one of the timed bombs out of the way and manages to run for a few feet, only to get launched from the explosion and impact a wall with loud thump. Better than being encased in exploding bombs, Gamble Man suppo-wait. Is that Pawn getting back up?!?

(Hey, woah, slow down, folks. I know we're working together to tell a story, here, but I also have things I want to do. You control your characters, and I'll control mine. This does mean that I will often be dictating the pace of combat, and you may not need to post at times, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Now, let's rewind a bit...)

Pawn was expecting to land gingerly on Print-Man's head, but found himself striking some sort of phantom mirror, that sent him coming back to from whence he came. He rolled upon hitting the ground and jumped to his feet, but he had only popped up just in time to get nailed in the chest with one of Gamble-Man's bombs. "Well..." was all he could mutter before the detonation was triggered, sending him reeling backwards and lying on his back.

"Looks like you got me," coughed Pawn, his chassis smoking. "Yeah...I am just a pawn, I wasn't supposed to be strong." Suddenly, he began to spark a bright cyan color, but he did not seem alarmed. "The good thing about pawns, though...is that they're expendable."
As his head hit the ground, Pawn's core exploded, and eight more Robots identical to Pawn burst forth from his shell. Hoping to take advantage of the shock of his foes, they rushed their foes, two on each of the opposing Robot Masters. Two buckled their shoulders and dashed to tackle Mage-Man; one hurled another over Insanity-Man's head, then they both ran at him at once; one threw another straight at Gamble-Man; and two went for the blow they had attempted before: planting both feet firmly on Print-Man's head.

[OOC: Sorry, CHAOS. :(]

"'Comic relief'? Why, I never!" Print Man exclaimed as he suddenly got to his feet. Drawing his Vorpal Pen, he knocked away both Pawns with a well-placed slice.

Spitting the dirt from his mouth, he took a moment to examine his surroundings. The beautiful courtyard had been thrown into disarray, with several shrubs uprooted and a few on fire. An elegant fountain stood in the middle of the chaos, topped by a shield-bearing statue of King. Normally, Print Man would have taken a moment to awe at its beauty.

But now was not the time. "We'll see who's the real comic relief!" cried Print Man as he rushed into battle.

[OOC: Oh, I never knew that that the enemies were reserved. Really limits the story to me, but it is your roleplay. By the way, the Pawns that are currently fighting our characters, can we use them for now? You should make a list for reserved characters.]

"Ah yeah, this is what I'm talking about!" exclaimed Insanity Man right before getting sacked in the stomach(His underbelly is his weak part, after all.)

"Wait, that one was a cheap shot! Whatever, the first guy was easy, which means you guys should be three times as hard, considering there's two now." While the Pawns continued to wail on Insanity Man, he stated this.

"Eenie meanie, miney moe...Who should I take down first? Maybe....the left?"

The left pawn smirked a little smile, and proceeded to put up a shield. Insanity Man goes to strike the left pawn, but then turns around, goes into ball form, and rolls right over the right Pawn. He then morphs back into his larger state, and takes a screwdriver-like tool from his shell, which seems to carry all his tools, as many noises can be heard shuffling together. He unscrews his hand, and it rolls inside his arm.

"Cannon, please."

A stout cannon device comes out, and he points it at the other Pawn.

"Guess what? I can do cheap shots too, you know."

He fires it right after, and the Pawn falls to the ground, dead the minute he was hit.

Before Print Man could rejoin the rest of the party, the two Pawns he had knocked away leap up and grasped him by the coat and punning him down. Landing on his bottom, he retaliated by swiftly kicking both Pawns; one landed in a hedge row a few meters away, while the other was knocked into the fountain halfway across the courtyard. The former got right back up and rushed towards him, only to be met with a hail of shots from his Pencil Buster.

"Who's the comic relief now, eh?"

[OOC: Sorry about that Chaos, got a little carried away.]

"3.716 seconds. This is how long it will take for the thrown pawn to make impact with me" Gamble Man calculated. Already using 0.893 seconds to get that time, he knew he could not set up a bomb in 2.823 seconds, so he was unsure on what he had to do. An idea popped up quickly, though. He was still prototyping the knew ability, and would never normally use something he was unsure about. Unfortunately, this was a not normal situation, so he announced with uncertainty in his voice "Card Shield!" It would take the pawn 0.634 seconds to crash into the large Queen of Hearts that hid Gamble Man. "The thrown pawn will not be knocked out, but only dazed for 15-20 seconds, so I have time to focus on the 2nd pawn." thought Gamble Man. What is it planning next?

Before Insanity Man went to help out the others, he noticed Print Man's act.

"Hmm...That attack seems pretty dangerous. I should watch my shell around the little wimp, or maybe he might catch me off-guard...IF we were to ever fight. I guess he's not so weak after all....Imma laugh at him anyway."

Because of this little intervention, Insanity Man completely forgot about the fact that the others were in danger, and decided to use one of the Pawns as a trampoline.

"Yep, you sure are expendable! You're pretty bouncy too!"

Unfortunately for Insanity Man, all the bounces acted as a jumpstart for the robot, waking up Pawn.
(The one who was rolled over. The one that was completely blown to pieces....He's not making another appearance anytime soon.)

Insanity Man took note of this and jumped off his body. Insanity Man gave a innocent smile to Pawn, even waving at him. Pawn was not amused.

"To be honest, I didn't see that coming. Maybe I need to lose some weight....Does this shell make me look too big?", said sarcastically by Insanity Man.

Pawn rushed at him, and Insanity Man readies himself for the oncoming attack.

(Not much of a challenge for you to fight a character you're controlling, is it? :P)

The one remaining Pawn targeting Insanity swung clumsily with his bare fists, which glanced off of his shields quite easily. He seemed tired and weak, then suddenly, with great force, he snapped forward and swung rapidly, aiming to deliver a quick, powerful blow to his foe's face.

The Pawn in the fountain sat there for a bit, letting the water run over his damaged frame, before slowly and carefully getting to his feet. Raising his arms, he threw them both forward, before, without warning, the fountain's water rushed out of the fountain and in the direction Pawn was facing—straight towards Print-Man. The Pawn that was gunned down with the Pencil Buster was picked up by the deluge and hurled off towards Mage-Man.

Realizing that the 3 allies of his were being attacked but not himself, Gamble Man summoned a count-bomb onto the Pawn in the fountain. Unfortunately, the bomb missed an veered off several feet to the side. Catching the pawn's attention, it sent a quick burst of water towards the card shield, pushing it back and causing it to collide with Gamble Man.

The torrent of water flung Print Man across the courtyard, dropping him onto a hedge row. Seething in fury, he armed his Pencil Buster and targeted the Pawn in the fountain. But after pausing for a moment, he instead shot at the base of the statue of King atop the fountain, casing it to fall onto the hapless Pawn bellow.

"Check and mate." grinned Print Man.

The Pawn directly struck Insanity Man on his left cheek, and although it didn't damage him all that much, it appeared to anger Insanity.

Pawn continued to throw continual punches, and Insanity Man managed to block each and every shot.

"It appears, you've underestimated us. Even letting your guard down on a weak being like me....Will result in your loss."

"Yeah, true. But here's the thing about Pawns. They rely on the method of "Strength in Numbers." And looking around you....You seem to be the only one. What do you do?"

Pawn was struck not by Insanity Man's attacks, but his speech. He truly was only strong with others, but he didn't have any teammates to support him. He ignored this and tried to lay the final blow on Insanity Man, but Insanity Man simply jumped above him and kicked the Pawn in his neck, finally subdued. Insanity Man picked up his limp body, and threw it against the fountain.

Being rather ticked off by the collision with his card shield, Gamble Man marched towards the Pawn that was thrown at him that was just now waking up, attached a count bomb to it, and angrily yelled "Hey, I think you forgot something!" and threw the Pawn towards the one that had originally thrown him, causing the bomb to detonate on impact.

The courtyard was left in disarray. The explosion from the Count Bomb sent the two Pawns careening back into the fountain, leaving four of their deactivated frames sitting in the fountain in a heap.

The only two remaining Pawns looked at each other as they ran—they knew it was too late for them to win the fight, but they knew they had to cut their losses and land some hit on the challengers. As they continued to run, they deftly avoided the Mage Fireballs—one jumped and landed in the brush, while the other hit the ground and let the attack sail over him, reaching his hand up toward it as it went. As the former emerged, it threw its hands out toward Mage-Man, and a blast of tree branches and foliage came out of its hands, which the other Pawn (Still on the floor) set ablaze with a snap of its fingers. "Better than we expected...this must not be your first time! But let's see how you handle this!"
